The blind see and the mute speak! -- Matthew 9:27-34 By Pastor Lee Hemen October 13, 2019 Some folks go through life living each day without ever seeing what’s going on around them and others never hear the joys or sorrows of life either. I am not speaking about those who are hindered in some way from hearing or speaking but those who go through life without seeing or hearing because they are so focused on their selves, job, or family. I am so glad that Jesus was not one of these folks. Here in Matthew’s gospel we find Jesus continuing his ministry as he leaves the Capernaum area. On his way he is faced with helping those in need in what seems like in rapid-fire succession. The people are beginning to see that Jesus might be more than a itinerate rabbi going about doing good things; he just might be the promised Messiah and we see it when the blind see and the mute speak! The Blind! -- John 9:1-41 By Pastor Lee Hemen June 14, 2015 The old proverbial saying, "There's none so blind as those who will not see" according to the Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings, has been traced back to 1546 (John Heywood), and resembles the Biblical verse: "Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear! (Jeremiah 5:21 NIV)" People can be physically born blind; they can be emotionally blind, intellectually blind, and worse -- spiritually blind. The Jewish leadership was spiritually blinded. They had become so used to the way things were and so used to following their set of codified laws that they could not see the working of God right in front of their eyes. Bartimaeus – Mark 10:46-52 By Pastor Lee Hemen September 26, 2010 AM I watched a news story the other night that related how a man had noticed that his eyesight was being adversely affected. He had returned from a trip overseas and began to notice that he began to have headaches and his vision was getting worse. What the ophthalmologist discovered was kind of weird and scary. The man had a worm in his cornea. Evidently, he had been infected with this parasite while on vacation. Only 15 cases of this have ever been recorded. The doctor was able to kill it by using a laser. However, the man’s eyesight may never return to normal. How awful would that be, finding out your eyeball was infected with a parasite? Ugh! I guess that out of all the senses I have, my sight would be one of the most important to me. In today’s passage of Mark, we find a man whose whole life was one of darkness.
