Hebrews 6:13-20 – The steadfast anchor! By Pastor Lee Hemen September 9, 2012 AM Recently, during the Democratic National Convention, leaders were angrily booed by the delegates when they decided to insert the word “God” back into their party’s platform. In another startling note, President Barack Obama enjoys a massive lead over Mitt Romney among registered voters who say they have no religion whatsoever, according to the Gallup tracking poll of the presidential race. Why are these two things important? They remind us that when people do not have a spiritual core or an anchor in life they will drift away from God. The warning we need to heed is that as individuals go, so goes the nation they live in as well. The writer of Hebrews wrote his sermon because he saw early Christians drifting away from their relationship with Jesus Christ. It is self-centeredness where worship is wrapped around the individual, commitment is based on our contentment, and our Savior and Lord is reduced to effeminate individual. Much of the church today fails to teach or comprehend just who Jesus is and what he has done for sinful man. Instead, we try to make the gospel relevant to the day and thereby Jesus into a means of living life for the moment. Ungodly sin is excused and Jesus made into our immoral image. Nothing could be further from the truth. The author of Hebrews set forth two key truths: 1) the exalted position of Jesus who is uniquely God’s King-Son and 2) the salvation-inheritance of those who trust him by faith. Hebrews 4:12-16 -- Confidence when everything is exposed! By Pastor Lee Hemen August 5, 2012 AM On the web site “pickthebrain.com” they share 10 ways to become more confident in your life. They write that “Self confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and feeling scared out of your wits. Your perception of yourself has an enormous impact on how others perceive you. Perception is reality — the more self confidence you have, the more likely it is you’ll succeed.” Now, do you want to know what they wrote? They said to 1) dress sharp, 2) walk faster, 3) maintain good posture, 4) be grateful for your successes, 5) compliment others, 7) sit in the front row, 8) speak up, 9) work out, and 10) contribute.
