The Book of Hebrews: Who, What, When, Where and Why! Pastor Lee Hemen June 3, 2012 AM Author: Although some include the Book of Hebrews among the Apostle Paul's writings, the certain identity of the author remains shrouded in the mist of history. Yet we can make several observations concerning who may have written Hebrews. Many names have been conjectured for the authorship of Hebrews, but the question remains unsolved. The tradition of Pauline authorship is very old and has never been decisively disproved. Missing, however, is Paul's customary salutation common to his letters. In addition, the suggestion that the writer of Hebrews relied upon knowledge and information provided by others who were actual eyewitnesses of Christ Jesus (Hebrews 2:3) makes Pauline authorship doubtful. Luke 22:14-20, 24-27, 31-34 – We need to remember! By Pastor Lee Hemen April 1, 2012 AM We were moved when a little boy was last seen at his school and disappeared. Many vowed to never forget. We were saddened by the loss of innocent lives and destruction of September 11th, 2001 and vowed to never forget. Like Pearl Harbor, the Japanese Tsunami, or the sinking of the Titanic there are those who were so shaken, affected, and moved that they said they would never forget. But time moves on, memories fade, and people die. Hearts and wounds are healed, yet for some of us we try to remember and place these events in perspective. We realize that we need to remember. In a much greater way, the Lord’s Supper serves as a call to remember. As believers participate in the Lord’s Supper, we recall the sacrifice Jesus made so we could be freed from the guilt of our sins. What God Has Called Us to Be – Luke 4:18-19; Mark 10:45; Luke 19:10 By Pastor Lee Hemen February 10, 2008 AM The words “humility” and “servanthood” for much of modern Christianity have become emotional outpourings rather than personal goals. We are encouraged to discover them by feeling them anew or by doing activities that sensitize us to our inner spirituality. This is a sickening concept built on a lie that gives us a false sense of self-worth. Why would I say that? Because we find in the life of Jesus the very essence of what the Christian is supposed to be. Our goal and mission in life is not found in feelings of faith, but rather in the discovery of who we are and whom Jesus is and what He has called us to be. Every human being should ask the question: What has God called me to be?
