The Wise Life! -- James 3:13-18 By Pastor Lee Hemen June 22, 2014 Where does wisdom come from? Does it come about because of age? Does it come from the amount of knowledge one knows or has acquired? Mark Twain retorted, “The person who has had a bull by the tail once has learned 60 or 70 times as much as a person who hasn't.” Another quote that is often falsely attributed to Twain is the one that states, “When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years!” My father used to remind us that “Just because you think you know something, does not make it true.” We find this pithy bit of wisdom to be quite true in our day and age whereby so many think they know God when in fact they know nothing about him at all. The Power of God – 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 By Pastor Lee Hemen January 18, 2009 AM Have you ever heard foolish talk? Have you ever received foolish advice? This is the realm of atheist’s thinking. Usually it rests on a circular argument like this: Religion is only mythic speculation, therefore, God does not exist. Why? We find no proof he does. What about creation? It is a random series of events. How? Evolution of molecules like RNA. Where did these come from? They occurred randomly. How? We aren’t sure. If you aren’t sure isn’t that speculation? Yes. If it is speculation, isn’t that “faith” and therefore we have to accept your speculation by faith in how these random events all came together to form life? Yes. Then isn’t this “faith” a religion? Like I said, foolish arguments. For those who say there is no God, I have found it is usually an excuse for them to live an ungodly lifestyle. To do whatever they want, whenever they want, without feelings of guilt, which they blame on humanity...
