Am I a rebel? - Isaiah 1:2-5, 11-20

Am I a rebel? - Isaiah 1:2-5, 11-20 By Pastor Lee Hemen January 5, 2014 AM I have always wondered why the opposite sex has found those who are rebellious fascinating. Perhaps it has to do with the what I call the “Eve Gene.” There are those who are attracted to rebellion, thinking that in it they will find some kind of freedom. As a teenager, I found it downright humorous when many of my contemporaries wanted to be different yet often followed the same fads, dressed the same, and did many of the same things everyone else did! Kind of like tattoos and body piercings are today! Those who desired to be different soon were the same as everyone else! We may desire to think of ourselves as rebels without a cause when in fact we are just being disobedient. God’s people are never to desire to be part of the crowd. In fact, we find that we are to be in the world but not of the world! When a child of the King desires to appear or appease themselves at the sake of their life in Christ, they are n...

Worthy Things In Life - Philippians 4:8-9

Worthy Things In Life - Philippians 4:8-9 By Pastor Lee Hemen July 12, 2009 AM Émile Coué introduced us to the psychobabble of the mantra of self-impression that “Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better.” It was a type of autosuggestion. The Coué method centers on a routine repetition of this particular expression according to a specific ritual, no matter your physical wellbeing and in the absence of any sort of associated mental imagery, you repeat it to yourself at the beginning and at the end of each day. In other words, you stand in front of the mirror, look at yourself, and remind yourself that in “Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better.” In doing so it does not matter how you feel, what is occurring, or what the day is like; you are “getting better and better.” The idea is that a positive state of mind comes from a positive state of mind. Does it work? Perhaps, until you blow it or prove that in fact everyday in every way you are not getting...

Be Approved of God! - 2 Timothy 2:14b-19

Be Approved of God! - 2 Timothy 2:14b-19 By Pastor Lee Hemen September 7, 2008 AM Every human being wants to be loved and accepted. We value what others think of us so much so that we know being accepted or rejected as a child can influence our entire life. Many of us can relate a time when we were rejected by our peer group and recount the hurt that this social dismissal caused. But how do we feel about being approved of God? Does it give us the same feelings of loss or of anxiety if we realized that God may not be happy with our lives? What if we discovered that God did not approve of us? Paul wrote his pastor friend Timothy to do “your best to present yourself to God as one approved.” Timothy, like all Christians should, needed to be able to handle the “Word of truth” correctly without hesitation so that God would surely approve of Timothy’s life lived for His kingdom. The questions remains for us therefore, “Are you approved of God?” Let’s discover what Paul writes to Timothy that ...
